Modern
religious movements would have us believe there is one
deity responsible for the order and maintenance of
existence. However, given the immense size of the
Universe, the variety of life forms, and the vastness of
the dimensions beyond, there is in fact a complex division
of labour - managed of course by the variety of Gods and
Goddesses; who in turn are supported in their work by
powerful smaller beings - the Sprites, for example. The
Sprites, too, have their days of celebration.
Sea Sprites
are between 12 and 18 inches in height, have thin bodies
and generally appear naked. They are neither male nor
female, so far as we can tell, for they have no genitalia
or breasts. They do have hair, short and wavy and
generally brown in colour, and big turquoise-coloured
eyes.
When last
we honoured them they appeared in a circle floating in the
air above the sea, moving slightly. Their voices sounded
thin and they were giggling.
"How
kind, how kind of you to honour us. We do no work today,
just have fun. How kind you are. How kind." And lots
more giggling.
