Most
people in modern times are more familiar with the name
Nike as a brand-name for sports clothing. To the ancient
Greeks she was the Goddess of Victory, and her most famous
remaining monument is the temple she shared with Athena on
the Acropolis in Athens, Greece.
Generally
the Goddess Nike is gentle. Her appearance on one occasion
was truly breathtaking to watch. There
appeared on the ground a glowing circle of golden light,
two metres wide, then from the air appeared millions of
tiny twinkling stars which fell only into the circle -
tiny stars less than two centimetres wide - forming into
the shape of a woman.
Her figure was completely assembled of
twinkling silver stars. It was impossible to distinguish
any detail of her features except longish hair; but it was
the most beautiful experience our team- members have ever
witnessed. They described feeling ethereal sensations of such intense beauty
it evoked tears.
Gradually the figure faded leaving only the
golden disk, then that too faded and she spoke:
"It is pleasant to
have mortals speaking directly to me and to show
gratitude. Yes, so
many know my name. Many know that I was a Goddess, a
legend; but there are a few that realise I am real.
I am Nike, a great one.
More powerful than mortals realise.
I now have many
temples. I am speaking to mortals. Children see and hear
far more than their elders. Young adults hear me and talk
about me among themselves. They are more receptive to new
ideas and although the Olympian faith is not new, it is
the oldest and truest, it is new to them."
'...I found myself in
an ordinary home, a dining room, with chairs and a dining
table and I saw a large bay window that looked out onto a
garden. In the window sat a man in his 50s with a drawing
board, he had various drawing tools with him, set squares
and compass and he was drawing something, not just
sketching, but measuring. Then a woman of about the same
age came into the room and asked what he was doing and I
heard him reply, 'I am designing a temple for the Gods.
This must be kept safe. I have been told that long after I
am dead it will be used. I have to get it accurate.' Then
the scene faded.
"Nothing in your
world is perfect. Much is very bad."
'...I had a glimpse of cities being
bombed.'
"As we take over the world,
which has come sooner than expected, there still will be
small things to annoy mortals. This has to be expected,
but the suffering of war and cruelty will be gone."
'...I was in open
country and it was warm. I walked and could see a building
ahead and hurried toward it. It was a very ornate temple.
It had six columns at the front, not smooth rounded, but
raised embossed work of pattern and the stone had a
silvery glint to it. The door was large and made of a
silver type metal and this too had the same embossed
patterns of wiggles. Over the top of the door was written
'NIKE' in very big letters.
There was an overhang, a big verandah.
It was the traditional temple shape but the roof was the
colour of very delicate green and there were lots of
flowers in big vases on the verandah, three large vases on
either side of the door, full of flowers. The vases stood
some four feet high, were pottery but painted on the front
of each in bright green was a laurel wreath.
"This was my greatest temple, long
gone. It will be built again."
