Litae

This Goddess is generally associated with another - Ate. But there is much more to Litae than people realise.

According to legend Ate's influence was to lead mortals into trouble and as a result she was banished from Olympus and came to earth.

In order to soothe humankind Zeus sent Litae after her. Classical mythology claims the Litae were his daughters (or prayers). They are described as wrinkled and lame and limped after their sister, Ate, trying to make good any evil she caused, and anyone wise enough to show respect to Litae would receive blessings.

In truth Ate is not evil, nor does she cause trouble for those who don't deserve it. Neither is Litae wrinkled or lame. But quite the contrary, in fact. Litae is beautiful and stately. She has midbrown hair and blue eyes. She appears to be young middle aged. "The great Litae is here. The priestess will come with me."

The following is the team-member's account:
' I was pulled to a street of ornate buildings on either side, they looked as though built of gold. The paving stones and road were golden. It all looked very lovely, very clean but there was no one around. Above the sky was blue and the sun shining bright. All of a sudden it poured with rain, the sun disappeared and the rain fell down and all the buildings and pavement and roads lost their gold and became ordinary stone. Then I heard her voice:
"The gold is only a facade. The stone lasts and is hard. Like life itself sometimes."

'She next pulled me into a church. I saw a big altar and big candlesticks and flowers and a gold cross on the altar and a brocade altar cloth. It all looked quite ornate with all sorts of fancy ornaments and giltwork. Suddenly it disappeared and in its place was a plain stone altar with incense burning in a lamp and this beautiful Goddess stood there and everywhere was very plain but She looked radiant with a beautiful aura. She spoke': "You have seen the altar of the Christian God and all its false trappings. Now you see the altar of the Olympian Gods and Goddesses. Which would you choose?

Mortals see me, but they deny me. Soon they will know the truth. I demand respect and homage from all souls yet none give it apart from you who somehow have remembered me. To millions of souls I have vent my spite upon them and they suffer. I also grant favours to all who honour me, so bear this in mind."
