The
God Erebus is described by the Greek poet Hesiod to be
among the first in Creation, though later his name became
associated with the Underworld realm wherein the Titan
Menoetius was imprisoned.
Erebus rarely changes from his African
appearance:
"I am
the mighty God Erebus. It is unusual for me to be honoured
so and I feel welcome. Not many mortals know of me,
yet."
Erebus has
extremely black skin and African features and wears his
hair closely-cropped. He is tall, big-built without being
fat, but immensely muscular. He appears to be aged around
40 years and stands 5 metres tall and that day wore a
long-sleeved gown wide at the wrists, plain and
round-necked. Erebus looks fierce and speaks with a deep
voice, commanding and hard:
"...It pleases
me when mortals pay homage to me, which is not often.
Thank you for doing this. I can
be fierce, I can
be cruel but I can also be gentle and kind. Today I am
gentle. Return now to your earthly life; you have my
blessings for bringing light into the darkness and I give
you the gift of more knowledge. We shall all be back
before too long."
