Dionysus

To the ancient Greeks he was known as Dionysus, but the Romans referred to this mighty God as Bacchus and considered him to be the God of Wine. However, there is already a God of wine - Silenus - whose job description results in him being invited to every celebration in the realms of the Gods. But Dionysus is much more a sober deity.
Probably the most enduring association with Dionysus is the hedonistic pleasure and mad drunken orgies with which some who worshipped him indulged. But Dionysus is also linked to the Egyptian Osiris, the wise and benevolent God who introduced civilisation to the Middle East, and who in fact became transformed into the Christian myth of Jesus.

Dionysus generally appears from a deep golden light and his presence generates a surge of power. He is a big figure, muscular but not fat, dark hair and dark brown eyes; clean shaven, large hands and feet. Dionysus often chooses to present himself as a male in his early 40s though he can appear in any form he chooses; but always there is an air of great authority about him.
His voice has a polished, well-educated accent:

"No one remembers me now; yet many know of the mighty ones but do not worship them. I am very powerful.

I now have many temples. In them I sit and listen to priests talking of a god who is only of their imagination. The congregations sing and pray to this god yet they really are doing this for me. There are mortals I have spoken to and been heard. They understand what I say. I instruct the priests so that they in turn may instruct their congregations. It will take time.

There are now some mortals who accept me as a God and in their own way honour me. They may not be as many as those who honour the mighty Zeus or the Goddess Aphrodite; but at least I am known to some. In the future there will be many temples all over the world for the different Gods and Goddesses and each day a mortal will honour at least one of us, the one of their choice on that day. In time all will honour us.

Be happy for me on my day and accept my blessings."
