Amphitrite

Sea Goddess Amphitrite is said to be the daughter of Oceanus and wife of Poseidon. Of what little legend there is associated with her, she is depicted as a patient and accommodating wife of the mighty sea God; though in one fit of jealousy, so the story goes, she turned the nymph Scylla into the frightening sea monster that she is.

Anyone who spends time with Amphitrite soon realises she is quite different from her mythical associations; in fact she is a fierce and uncompromising Goddess; and as for turning Scylla from beautiful nymph into monster, Scylla is quite capable of transforming herself into both forms without any help from anyone else.

The Goddess Amphitrite generally appears from a tourquoise light. She chooses to appear at the age of 35-40 years old. She is fairly muscular and stands three metres tall, her hair swept up and coiled on top of her head; her eyes a pale tourquoise colour. Amphitrite sometimes appears wearing a gown, though most times she is bare-breasted and glistening wet from the sea.  She has large hands and feet. Her voice is deep and strong for a female:

"I am the Goddess Amphitrite. Thank you for welcoming me. After a very long time it is gratifying to have homage paid.
What a privileged being you are. I shall not inflict any tests upon you today, but this does not mean that I shall not in the future. I can be kind and I can be hard, as no doubt you will learn in time.
The Gods and Goddesses of Olympia rule the world, land and sea. The Gods of the Winds blow strong around your country today and we the great ones of the seas lash your coastlines. The fishermen who have small craft are frightened to set out on their murderous journeys, so around your shores most of the sea life is safe."

The following experience is one our team-member will never forget. "I take the priestess so she can experience oil."

'She dragged me underwater and I realised there was oil around me and I couldn't get to the surface. There were fish around being choked by the oil and dying; then I had gobs of the really thick black stuff in my mouth and fought to avoid it. I was choking and fighting and there were dead fish all over the place. The oil was burning me and I tried to reach the surface for a few gulps of air, but I couldn't because of the oil in my mouth. Then I just sank down into the blackness.
I felt hands grasp me and suddenly I surfaced and was placed on an oily rock. On the sea in front of me was a tanker. It was on fire and I noticed a small lifeboat being lowered, but it tipped and two of those on board fell into the sea.

Amphitrite hauled me under the water and dragged me toward the ship and I saw the two men. She spoke: "One is the captain."
'They were sinking, coughing and spluttering, covered in oil. Then I saw what looked like hands, very large hands, four of them and they grabbed the men by the ankles and pulled them to the bottom and held them there until, cloaked in oil, the men were quite dead. I too was choking with the oil but then she dragged me back.'

"I expect you fear me. I am not gentle, I know, but anyone who pollutes the sea will die a horrible death or will be sent to the Devourer when their life is ended."
