Classical
mythology is not clear whether the God Aeolus is Guardian
of the four Winds or their father; though Roman mythology
suggests he is the God of the Wind. According to Homeric legend Aeolus - son of
Poseidon - was appointed by Zeus to rule the winds and it
was thought he would be able to control them.
This is
probably so, though ask one of the Gods of the Winds
(especially fierce Boreus the North Wind) and they will
tell you - no one controls them.
Aeolus
mostly chooses to appear as a figure of cloudy grey blue
wisps, but when fully materialised he is tall but not
gigantic with long white hair standing out from his head
as if blowing in the wind. Although his hair is white he
is not elderly, perhaps 40ish. He has long fingers and his
skin is nearly translucent and yet he appears strong and
muscular without being muscle-bound.
His voice is deep
and commanding:
"I am
the mighty God Aeolus. It is a long time since anyone
honoured me. Not many mortals know of me, you must be very
wise, you honour me in a respectful fashion. I now appear
before you in my mortal form, the best.
This is my very
special day.
There have been many incidences where my presence has been
felt and my voice heard. More mortals are aware of my
presence or know there is a voice that speaks to their
inner selves. But I will not be ridiculed.
I am a mighty
God with much power and to those I favour I bless. To
those I do not favour there is great trouble. As the
number of my temples grows, more and more mortals will be
influenced by me. I will be heard.
I Aeolus know what is happening. I see
and hear much. It will take time before your world
recognises us, but we have waited so long we can wait a
little longer.
So many mortals to influence, gradually
they will come to understand and to know the great Aeolus."
