Aristaeus's
name means 'the very good' though some writers have since
considered the name to be another term for the God Pan.
But Aristaeus is a quite different and separate deity.
The
confusion may be due to the traditional belief that
Aristaeus is a nature deity whose benevolence brought to
early humankind the arts of bee-keeping and olive growing;
and shepherds often called upon him to protect their
flocks. Other writers claim he is the son of Uranus and Gaea, though others
again said his parents are Apollo and Cyrene; and that he
was tutored by
Kyron
the Centaur in the arts of medicine and soothsaying.
Whether or
not Aristaeus' province is as above we cannot confirm. But
we can provide a description of how he appears. He has
dark eyes and chooses to appear as a man in his 40s. He is
clean-shaven, tall with shoulder-length curly hair and
generally wears a long robe. Though like any other God or
Goddess he can change appearance and does so (another time
he appeared young with short curly hair and during the
encounter literally changed form, same face but his eyes
became darker and wrinkles appeared, his hair became long
and white and even his tunic changed into a long robe).
"I can
appear as I wish," said he laughing. "Centuries
have passed and I am forgotten. I am the great God
Aristaeus. Candles are lit, incense is burned and so I
enter this temple, as this shows a sign of respect. I
would not enter if this was not observed. I am a great
God. I can be kind and gentle; I can be hard and sometimes
appear cruel. Thank you for honouring me, showing your
respect and love which I think is my due.
You are
very privileged. You have seen many Gods and Goddesses,
heard us all and been in our realms. Perhaps you do not
realise how fortunate you are. Come now and see a special
place."
The following is the team-member's
account:
'...I went through a blue swirling light, blue with a
white milky effect that changed to mauve and milky white
swirling around; then it changed to green, but always the
milky white, then it turned to bright pink, then silver. I
heard him speak: "There are many dimensions between
you and where we dwell."
I found
myself in a large room, all bright yellow. The ceilings
and walls had very bright yellow paint or material
covering, almost garish; but the floor was a beautiful
mosaic of blue and brown and very dark red and white.
There were no pictures, just this lovely pattern. Nor was
there furniture in the room, only four pairs of golden
upright poles, from these were strung hammocks of golden
mesh. There were cushions in them and also lots of
cushions strewn and heaped on the ground. "I show you
my special place. You have earned the right to see
it."
It's true.
This was not the first encounter with Aristaeus and for
several years encounters with him involved some serious
tests of courage and wisdom played out in a variety of
'virtual' situations.
"We
the Olympian Gods are making our presence felt. Mortals do
not realise this, they are so wrapped up in themselves,
their own wishes, their own greed and desires, they
are sometimes hard to get through to; but the world is
slowly changing."
